A Post & Core crown is a combination of a post (that extends down into the root canal of your tooth) and a dental crown. Post & Core is a prosthetic restoration required where there is inadequate tooth structure remaining to support a traditional restoration or an artificial crown. It's a one-piece prosthetic that resembles the main body of the tooth's structure atop a metal post. When a tooth is decayed or fractured and could not be restored with a crown immediately and securely, this restoration enables future replacement by reconstructing the tooth's core. On average, the crowns can last between 5 -15 years. But the longevity of your crown is determined by your personal lifestyles and mouth-related habits, the oral hygiene practices you followed, and the amount of wear and tear the dental crown can take.
